Welcome to my shop. This is Leonard, the founder of Marseem shop. Firstly, I would like to thank you for visiting my shop and taking an interest in the stories behind my old handmade dolls. Meanwhile, I am happy to share the story of my shop establishment and how I was inspired to open it. Additionally, it’s my pleasure to have you in my doll world which shows your interest in us.
My Family’s Background
Since childhood my life has been challenging due to our family’s economic situation; nevertheless, I have persevered. When my father passed away, I took on the responsibility of supporting my family. On the other hand, my mother, Catherine, is admirable in her virtues, behaviour, attitudes, and the way she treats people. Also, she is extremely social and loves communicating with others. Yet still, she is a talented drawing artist as well, her friends consider her creative and often seek her advice. Read more
My little sister, Eleanor, is a cute girl who loves listening to Mozart’s symphonies and collecting old handmade dolls from a young age. Her passion for music led her to learn the piano, and she eventually became a professional piano player in our city. Her friend Constance occasionally visited to teach her some music tracks, which was the reason my father was working hard to save money to buy a piano for her, dreaming of seeing her become the best piano player in the world. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could see her success. His death was a painful loss for all of us, especially Eleanor. This is when my challenging journey began to support my family and fill the void left by my father.
Idea Inspiration in Old Handmade Dolls
Indeed, I took on various jobs during my work and met many people who worked as postmen, actors, farmers, students, musicians, dancers, and more. Furthermore, we would meet on weekends to talk and have fun. Hence, listening to their stories sparked a passion for writing inside me. Consequently, I began writing a book to share the societal values their stories contained. After finishing my book, I asked my mother for feedback. So, she suggested transforming my friends’ stories into old-style handmade dolls! “Wow! What a brilliant idea,” I said. “These values and rich heritage should be shared with society to encourage people to uphold them. Surely, the best way is to embody your friends’ stories in unique dolls that enhance home decor and remind people of our societal values that most forget,” she replied.
Thus, motivated by my mother’s idea, I began assembling a team. Suddenly, my mother remembered her friend Georgina’s daughter, Maria, who was skilled at making wool dolls. I quickly approached Maria with the idea. She was impressed with my story and, as a result, believed it was worth pursuing because of the meaningful social values in the stories. However, Maria asked if I could afford the cost of wool for the dolls. I admitted, “Honestly, I can’t.” Then, an idea struck me. “Maria, what about using cotton?” I asked. Maria responded, “Oh! I haven’t tried this before, but we can give it a go since cotton is more affordable.” “Amazing! Let’s get started,” I said. The first test doll Maria crafted from cotton was based on my friend Lilian, and it turned out wonderfully. After all, we decided to use cotton as a primary material for our dolls.
Shop Establishment for Old-Style Handmade Dolls
Now, as my dream began to materialize, more people started visiting my shop. Realizing we needed help managing it, Maria suggested her husband, Waseem embrace the management of the shop. Straightaway, he welcomed the idea and joined our team. In appreciation of Maria and Waseem’s invaluable support, I decided to incorporate their names into the shop’s name. So, We combined the first three letters of Maria’s name with the last four letters of Waseem’s name to create “Marseem.” Besides, our goal is to convey societal values and neglected heritage to all generations while adding distinctive charm to any home through our aged handcrafted dolls.
Additionally, I would like to conclude by expressing my heartfelt gratitude to all my friends for allowing me to share their stories with the world. Also, I want to thank those who supported me in launching my shop, especially my mother, her friend Georgina, and my friend Sebastian, who was a great support in writing my book.
Finally, I want to thank you once again for visiting my shop and considering my old handmade dolls. Furthermore, I wish you the best of luck in finding the perfect doll that enhances your home decor.
